G-10 is Pretty Strong Stuff!

Raven Cutom Cues

You may or may not be familiar with the G-10 joint pins. In technical terms G-10 is a thermoset industrial laminate consisting of a continuous filament glass cloth material with an epoxy resin binder. Occasionally I am asked if the 7/16-11 G-10 pin I used in Serial number 00055 or other G-10 pins are really strong enough to hold a cue together without eventually breaking? Initially some people are a bit uncertain about G-10 since it isn’t metal, so to show how strong it is I cut a section of G-10 rod and made a point on one end. I’ve hammered it through a ¼ inch piece of plywood. As you can see it is extremely strong. It wasn’t even scratched in the process. It is only one of the joint pin choices that are available on Raven Custom Cues and it isn’t necessarily the right choice in all cases, but it is a very good joint pin. It is extremely light-weight. The G-10 pin weighs only about 3/10ths of an ounce. G-10 is the closest thing to no joint pin at all in a pool cue. The additional cost to use this pin is $20.00.

Some of physical properties of G-10 material are: High dielectric strength, Radiation resistant, High tensile strength, Chemically resistant, High flexural strength, Dimensional stability, Low moisture absorption and High impact strength
